Welcome

I am a 30-something mom of three and wife of more than 11 years. I work nights doing data entry from home and attend college part time to get a degree in special education. I stay home during the day with my youngest son and my older son and daughter are twins in 1st grade. Please use a direct link if you want to include my items on your site. You may do what you want with the items you make from my free stuff with the exception of selling them on Etsy. I have an Etsy shop and don't want to compete with my own designs. Of sleeveless Easter Dresses?  This year should be better than most since Easter falls a little later than usual but those darn egg hunts are always so early in the morning.  My poor daughter invariably freezes her little arms off or we are desperately running around trying to find her a jacket and she ends up in something that just doesn't show off her Easter prettiness to advantage.   This year I decided (finally) to rectify the situation.

The pattern to the pink shrug is available on Etsy.

V-Stitch Shrug

V-Stitch =   (dc, ch1, dc ) in same chain or space

Pattern can be adjusted to any size by adding multiples doing multiples of 3 + 5.

Any weight of yarn can be used but I prefer a light worsted weight yarn (4) like Caron Simply Soft.  This shrug is so comfy and versatile.   Super easy pattern to follow.
I used about 1 1/2 skeins of Simply Soft for this shrug.  I used an I hook but crochet tightly so if you crochet more loosely you might use an H hook.

The sweater in the picture is a size 6/7.

I am writing the directions out that I used exactly.  Again, this is easy to adjust.  You merely make a chain long enough to stretch from your desired sleeve length on one arm to the same spot on the other.  Arms out like a T.

Chain 164

Row 1.  Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each across
Row 2.  Chain 5, turn, (dc, ch1, dc) in  3rd sc (first V-stitch made), *skip next 2 sc, V-stitch in next sc,* repeat from * to * across, dc in last SC.
Row 3-5.  Chain 3 (counts as dc) turn, *V-stitch in ch 1 space of V-stitch in previous row*, repeat across.  Dc in last DC.
Row 6.  Ch 1, turn.  Sc in each dc and ch 1 sp across
Row 7.  Ch 1, turn.  Sc in each sc across.
Repeat rows 2-7 until desired length.  (4 times total for size 6/7).  Fasten off.

Fold last row to meet starting row with right sides folded to the inside.

Make sure corners are matched.  Join yarn through both loops at right corner and ch 1, sc through both layers in each sc across about ¼ of work.  For me that was 45 sc.  Fasten off.   Now flip work so you repeat the same thing from the opposite corner.  Fasten off.

Turn sleeves right side out.  Top and bottom match right now and it doesn’t matter which you join in.

Round 1.  Join yarn about halfway between the two sleeves at edge.  SC around entire edge.  Join.
Round  2*.  Chain 3, dc in same as join, *dc in next stitch, 2 dc in next*, repeat from * to * around.  Join.  Repeat until ruffled edge is desired length.  It only took me 2 rounds for the look in the photograph.

Sleeve edge

Join to back of sleeve edge.
Round 1.  SC evenly around sleeve edge (36 sc for size 6/7)
Round 2-4.  Ch 1, sc in same, sc in each stitch around (repeat 2 times or until desired length of cuff is reached).  Fasten off.

Repeat for other sleeve.

Weave in all ends.

I haven't tested this pattern yet so please let me know if there are any mistakes or if you need clarification.

Is the directions for the blue or pink shrug, I'd love to make the pink one for my twins dance this Friday.

  1. The pink one is for sale on Etsy so I didn't post it here.

Hi I've gone to your Etsy link and can't find the pattern, If you could tell me how to find it, I'd appreciate it. Thanks you.

  1. Crud, I was thinking about another pattern that I posted the other day. I haven't finished writing up the pink pattern but if you are an experienced crocheter you can probably figure it out from what I do have done. You can email me at hyphenatedlady@yahoo.com and I will send you what I have. Thanks so much!

  1. It is mostly written out but I haven't tested it so you could be my tester for free, at least on what I have done. I am working on it now to get as much done as possible. I can also email you the rest of the pattern if I don't finish before you email me.

What size hook do I use if I want to make one for an adult?

  1. Sarah says:

Hi, I would like to get you pink pattern, but I would need in 9/10 size... I couldn't find how to email you... would you email me? rockfordbayranch (at) gmail (dot) com.
    Thank you!
    Sarah
PS I need to make it for my sister, with in 2 weeks...

  1. Sarah, I just emailed you.

Anonymous, For the V-Stitch shrug I would use up to a J hook to get some increase in size without too loose a stitch. Unless you are using a heavier weight yarn I wouldn't go bigger than that. The V-Stitch is fun because you can get lots of different looks with different yarns. To increase the width just chain the length you want from elbow to elbow (arms out like a T). Make sure you have a Chain that is multiples of three and then add 5 stitches. For example 99+5 so ch. 104. I hope this helps.

I would like to make the pink pattern for my granddaughter but cannot find it on ETSY. Can you help? She picked it out from many patterns. I would need a size 8 (lady's) as she is 14. Thank you.

  1. Here is a link to the pattern on Etsy. http://www.etsy.com/listing/69689646/lacy-shrug-crochet-pattern The pattern is written for a girls size 5/6 and 7/8, with instructions on how to increase the length and width to accommodate basically any size. You simply add width to the starting chain and rows to the body.

  1. Wendy says:

    Hello,

Love this pattern but the only thing that doesn't really make sense to me is on Row 2 where you chain 5. On all other rows you chain 3, and you're not skipping and stitches, really, because of the V-stitch. I just chained 3 there because after the first couple of times it looked a little woogy to me...

  1. Hi Wendy, the chain 5 is correct. It loops out on the sides until you are finished and pull the length. Then it looks perfect. You can do chain 3 but it will narrow the width of the project and decrease the size of the loops on the sides.

  1. Dawn says:

Do you have a rough guess on the gauge?

  1. I have no idea on the gauge, it really isn't important, more important is the measurement when you are done. Since I crochet tightly a lot of people are able to use a hook a size bigger and come up with the same look.

Hi I would like to make this for my niece but I need to make it in a size 4.. How do I decrease/ make the pattern smaller?

  1. You decrease the starting chain in multiples of three. I would see how wide it is at 152 ch. You really only need to lose about 2-3 inches off of the written size for it to go down to a 4.

  1. holly w says:

I made the V stitch shrug . It turned out pretty. My sleeves turned out 3/4 length. I think I should have been more generous when I made that initial chain because the length from arm to arm seemed to have shrunk a bit. Thanks for the pattern! It was easy and quick!

  1. So glad it turned out Holly. If you look closely on my daughter it is about 3/4 sleeves on her too. I need to make her a new one this year.

Please could you email me the pattern for the pink one. I would like it for my daughter who is 4 years old. My email is morrismcr3@yahoo.co.uk

  1. You can purchase the pink pattern on Etsy, you can use the link at the left or http://www.etsy.com/listing/69689646/lacy-shrug-crochet-pattern

    Thanks!

So... um, when it says "join to back of sleeve edge" do you mean the same side where you joined the sides of the sleeves together on the inside?

This is the first true clothing item I've ever made and I do thank you for such an easy pattern.

    Spasibo. =3

  1. The sleeve edge is the end of the sleeve, you are making the cuff!

Hi, I am using bernet satin, and h hook. I measured across my grand daughters back as you said. she wants short sleeves. it came just above her elbow on each side. I only chained 80. ,, She is 5. Do you think it is gonna work ? I guess I can always make a bigger band on the sleeves if they ate way to short... thank you. Janet. jbarlow0825@ yahoo.com

My grand nieces fell in love with pattern and can't seem to get my hands on it anywhere. Is there anybody out there who has it and could send it to me since I cannot get a response from the originator and Etsy says the account is closed.

Just wanted to tell you not only did I do the test pattern for you when my girls were in K but now that they are in 3rd grade I'll be making it again for Easter. I have 2 days to make 2 of these beautiful shrugs. I get lots of compliments on them. Peg

  1. Unknown says:

Peg - You said you did the test pattern for me but I don't know where to find it. There was nothing attached to the email and none of the links find a pattern. Am I missing something? If I need to purchase the pattern I am willing to do so. My grand nieces are sizes 12, 8 and 5 so I imagine I could adjust to fit. They are all three little skinny minnies. LOL.

Waiting to hear from you and thanks

    Lynda
